6 years ago this Summer, my husband and I were lay by the pool in the grounds of the historic Castello in Piemonte, where we were staying on our honeymoon, talking about our future
. We had just got married the week before on the Ligurian coast, near to where my husband’s Italian side of the family were from. We were sat thinking about what lay ahead and what it was that we wanted from our lives.
As I looked around me at the beautiful surroundings, I saw what I wanted- beauty, history, romance and freedom.
I had been unhappy in my corporate marketing job for a couple of years and craved the freedom to follow my own path. My husband and I share a passion for antiques and spent our weekends sourcing pieces for our home. Inspired by our travels to France and Italy, we could never really find what we were looking for at home. We knew these items existed and wanted to make them more widely accessible. We had already planned to visit the renowned Grand Balon in Turin but the trip really cemented our passion of what we wanted to do together. To combine our passion for beautiful historic objects and our professional background in marketing to set up our own online antiques shop.
We just needed a name. Many a hazy afternoon by the pool went by, when the name came to me - La Boheme. The Italian Opera set in 19th Century Paris and so it was born.
This was in 2017 and there has been a very wiggly journey to launching the website that we’re so proud of 6 years later.
